Legislative Advocacy

ECHO's legislative advocacy program serves the specific needs of board members and homeowners in California common interest developments. While educating CID owners about the requirements of California law is an important part of our mission, we also work to educate government officials about the needs of California CIDs. Because rapid changes in the law make it impossible for homeowners to learn their legal responsibilities, ECHO helps lawmakers understand the importance of simplifying and strengthening CID law in California.

Looking Back

2008 was a busy year for common interest development legislation. The Legislature introduced 10 bills to regulate common interest developments, including one complete overhaul of the Davis-Stirling Act. In the end, 4 of those bills were signed into law. Read a summary of the signed bills and their requirements on our News page.
