Legislative Advocacy

Common interest development legislation in 2005 showcased a dramatic focus on the new elections and voting law. The serious legal concerns that arose out of that legislation, however, compelled the legislature in 2006 to move "clean-up" legislation to fix SB 61 even before it went into effect. Although the overall effect of last year's legislative efforts is still being determined, ECHO, together with other organizations, was successful in working to clarify some of the most confusing elements of SB 61. "Clean-Up, Confusion and Giant Steps in the Right Direction" takes a look at the aftermath of the 2006 legislative session.

Now, with the deadline for new California legislation already past, it appears that the current year will require even greater efforts from ECHO’s legislative advocacy team. With more than 2700 new bills before the Legislature this year, ECHO has identified the most prominent bills that will significantly impact CIDs. ECHO will continue working to identify any pieces of legislation with the potential to affect CID operations.
